The creation of dictionaries for unwritten languages holds immense academic importance as a vital effort to safeguard linguistic diversity. In this context, the Trilingual Siddi-Kannada-English Dictionary plays a pivotal role in documenting an endangered language spoken in Karnataka, reflecting the urgent need to protect these linguistic traditions. The proactive measures taken by the Government of India highlight the academic relevance of this endeavour. Spearheading this mission is the Central Institute of Indian Languages through its Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages (SPPEL). The Dictionary stands as one of the deliverables of SPPEL, serving as a valuable repository, providing extensive data on vocabulary and expressions of Siddi. To enhance user-friendliness, the Dictionary systematically arranges headwords in Kannada alphabetical order. Each entry includes the headword, phonetic transcription, grammatical category, and a dual-language gloss. Moreover, it enriches the linguistic experience by incorporating synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and illustrative visuals-creating a deeper connection to Siddi language and culture.
