The articles in this book deal with these and related topics. Quite a few of these belong to the area of conversational analysis and pragma stylistics. The data are mostly from written texts, mostly literary and some non-literary - news reports, interviews, transcribed conversations, etc. Most of these articles were written between 2004 and 2017. The target-readership the author has in mind comprises all those interested in language use, be they specialists or non-specialists. At the same time, care has been taken to ensure that the ideas in the field have not been over-simplified and thereby distorted.
